Respect

respect

Before you can get the respect of others, you need to respect yourself first.

“Respect yourself if you would have others respect you.”

Baltasar Gracian

Always respect others even if they don’t respect you. In the end it will always come back.

You can’t ask for respect, you’ll get it or not. It’s not up to you. You need to do whatever you feel is right and the respect will come from your action.

Stop worrying about the respect that others have or not for your work.

Respect will come from your actions. If you don’t act, you can’t get the respect from others that you want.

When you take action, you don’t know if it will have the effect you want. But if you do it with respect for yourself, you’ll at least have the good feeling for having done it.

Doing good

doinggood

Be excellent in your everyday work.

“Leave your ego at the door every morning, and just do some truly great work. Few things will make you feel better than a job brilliantly done.”

Robin S. Sharma
Always go for the excellent in everything you do.

You never go wrong when you do your best to do well.

Doing good will make you feel good.

Aware

aware

When you become aware of something, you are involved in the end result. Taking action or not.

“Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.”

Aldous Huxley

Facts do not cease to exist because you don’t know about them. You just don’t have that much influence on them as the people who are aware.

Take responsibility in the reality you are aware of.

If you can do something, even the smallest things, do it.

If you do something, do it for you. Know that in the end, you are doing it for you.

Gain pleasure

gainpleasure

We’re all drive by the desire to avoid pain and get more pleasure. It’s at the base of all our behavior.

“All human have the desire for certainty that they can avoid pain and gain pleasure.”

– Tim Robbins

Avoiding pain and gaining pleasure can become something that rules your life. When it’s the case, you could end up feeling out of control. Or you could end up with a maniacal control on your life. As in everything, the middle path is always the better way.

Let’s say you got burned by the oven when you were 6 years old. That experience will be printed in your memory. If you let it grow, you could end up never be able to cook anything using an oven. But, understanding that you have to be careful and use the oven wisely, you can go over that bad memory and cook with it. Doing so will ask that you do some work on yourself and find the guts to overcome your fear of the pain.

Pain is a warning. It has to show you that you need to make some changes.

Learning and Doing

learningdoing

Learning is great. But doing is always better.

“You don’t learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over.”

Richard Branson

We all need to start up with the learning. Some will learn fast and some will be slower. It doesn’t matter, because it’s what they do with what they learned that will make an impact. In the end, the doers will always take the lead on the outside learner. Learning from the experience of other is great, but it won’t never as great as learning from your own experiences.

The more you’ll do and the more you’ll develop your special alarm senses. Yes, that special senses that will tell you if one thing is better than the other. That special senses cannot come from the experience of others, you have to build it on your own.

About that special sense, I have a story to tell you. My wife was working as a dispatch for a security alarm company. On that night, she was working as usual and doing her job. You have to understand that 98% of the alarm are false. So, to have a positive alarm is really rare. They were taking care of many thousands of alarm in an 8hrs shift. Among all those alarms, she got one alarm for a fire detection in a snack bar. She sent the fire department and went on with the other alarms. The fire department came back and report that there was no fire in there. She felt that something was wrong. She got a few more alarm from that place and she got that feeling that something was wrong. So she called back the fire department and told them that she kept getting an alarm and something was strange with that alarm coming back again and again. So the fireman got back to the snack bar and did some other test. They tested the place for gas and found out that there was a leak in there. It was a major leak. If it would have blown, the whole village would have exploded. In some way, she followed her feeling and saved many people. The feeling was good because she understood how the alarm where working and she had experience on the job. If this would have happen in her first week, there’s a good reason to think that she would not have push it further after the first check up from the fire department.

We all need to start up with some learning. Those who don’t take the time to learn the basics first will have to get it the hard way doing it. The problem with learning is there’s a lot of people that can’t take the next step into doing. You’ll have to find your edge in this. Some will need a lot of time and some a lot less. It’s ok to take the time you need. Because, in the end the ones who are doing and keep on doing will be the one to succeed.

Between learning and doing, doing is the best. But you need to keep on doing. Most doers who are quitting do it because they don’t have what is needed to keep going. They don’t know what they should do and they don’t know how they can find that information. And this could be helped with learning. You should keep on learning as you are doing. It will help you face the problem you’ll get on the way to reaching for your goal.

Learning the basics is like building a strong basement for your project. It will not assure you of success, but it’s a good way to start.

“There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning.”

Jiddu Krishnamurti

There’s no end to learning, even if you think you don’t have anything more to learn, you’ll learn anyway.

“The brighter you are, the more you have to learn.”

– Don Herold

Some very intelligent people think they know enough. That’s one more thing they’ll have to learn, that they have to keep on learning to the level of their capacity. You should always surpass yourself.

Success Anchor

successanchor

Anchor your success in time and space.

When you reach a point of success, take the time to celebrate it. Take the time to anchor it with something special.

It can be a picture that you put on your wall. I can be a little something that will remind you of that moment. I can be a nice moment with your family to celebrate this success. It can be anything you want, as long as you create memories that you can come back to when you are in a difficult moment.

The anchor will help you remember the good times. It will help you keeping the faith that things can be better and that you can do great things.

As you go along, you’ll anchor more and more success. Doing so will give you lots of great things to go back to.

See the anchor as a diploma or a trophy. You set the level to achieve and the goal to reach.

“Celebrate your successes. Find some humor in your failures.”

Sam Walton

Stuff

stuff

We all talking about getting stuff.

But in reality, what we really want is to be happy. That’s all.

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony.”

– Mahatma Gandhi

Stop working for stuff!

Sit down and write what makes you happy. Then start to work in that direction so your life will not be built around stuff.

Impact

impact

You do have an impact on reality.

“Remember upon the conduct of each depends the fate of all.”

Alexander the Great

Your action influence the fate of all. Taking action or not, you influence. By not taking action, you choose your action.

“Laws control the lesser man… Right conduct controls the greater one.”

Mark Twain

Violence is never a good option. Violence will bring violence. In the end, you’ll have to live with what you have done. Even if you did it for the greater good.

“Do unto others as you would have done to you.”

Respect the golden rule.

What you do to others will always come back to you. Sometimes in ways that you can’t associate.

Fountain of youth

fountainofyouth

If you keep on learning, you’ll never get old. Learning is the fountain of youth.

“Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.”

 – Samuel Ullman

Enthusiasm in life is the way to keep up the need to learn more. When you loose that source of motivation, you loose the will to stay young.

“The secret of genius is to carry the spirit of the child into old age, which means never losing your enthusiasm.”

 – Aldous Huxley

The geniuses are the ones who find ways to keep their enthusiasm. No one can do it for you; you have to get it on your own.

You have the power to choose what you want. Even if there’s pressure from a lot of outside source to push you in one direction or another, in the end you always have the last word. Choose wisely, because the one who’s going to live with it is you.

sweeva

Give

give

If you want others to be good with you, be good with others first.

Don’t expect the good to come from where you put it.

Don’t expect that only good will come your way.

If you are doing well from the bottom of your heart. If you are doing it without any expectation. Then good will come to you.

There’s no way to know when it will come, but it will.

“I think we need to look at ourselves first. We should practice what we’re preaching. Otherwise, we are hypocrites.”

– Mo Ibrahim

Talk is cheap. Action is what makes things happen.

Every action, even the smallest ones will have an influence on reality.

Don’t underestimate the power of being idle. No action is influencing reality as much as if you do take action.

From the moment you are aware, you have influence on reality. For good or bad, you shape the world.
