Learning

2020 05 15 Learning

Learning is the basis of evolving.

When I say learning, I don’t mean only the school. I mean taking the time to learn something new.

Don’t take a stand on your knowledge. Always keep an open mind to something that could modify what you already know.

When you learn something new, take the time to reflect on it.

To read without reflecting is like eating without digesting.”

Edmund Burke

Deep inside of you, there’s an evaluator. It will tell you if that knowledge is good for you or not. This doesn’t mean that this knowledge is good or bad, it just means that it’s good or bad for you.

What is not good for you could be good for someone else. So, what you know isn’t always good for someone else.

The Fountain of youth

2019 11 27 the fountain of youth

The fountain of youth is in continuing to learn. Without other purposes than to grow and do better things.

Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.”

Henry Ford

You are as old as you choose to be. Choose to be young.

A mind with an interest in knowledge is a mind that stays young.

Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and diligence.”

Abigail Adams

Choose to stay young. Develop your interest in learning.

Knowledge

knowledge

Respect the opinion of others. It is based on knowledge that you may not have.

“Everybody is ignorant, only on different subjects.”

Will Rogers

We keep learning new things, even if we don’t think we are.

“Real knowledge is to know the extent of one’s ignorance.”

Confucius

Prepare your mind to receive the new knowledge that is coming in. Be open and respectful.

Even if you think the new knowledge is wrong, take the time to understand it and verify it before you reject it.

In the end, you always pick what you want.

Else then a religious book, do you read a book more then once?

Listen

Your time is precious and the time of others too.

When someone share something useful with you, listen.

“One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say.”

Bryant H. McGill

Good listener will be seen as more friendly.

“Listen with the intent to understand, not the intent to reply.”

Stephen Covey

Understand with the intent to learn something from it.

Learning is a choice. Those who have the ability to keep on learning are the ones that keeps on growing.

Learning and Doing

learningdoing

Learning is great. But doing is always better.

“You don’t learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over.”

Richard Branson

We all need to start up with the learning. Some will learn fast and some will be slower. It doesn’t matter, because it’s what they do with what they learned that will make an impact. In the end, the doers will always take the lead on the outside learner. Learning from the experience of other is great, but it won’t never as great as learning from your own experiences.

The more you’ll do and the more you’ll develop your special alarm senses. Yes, that special senses that will tell you if one thing is better than the other. That special senses cannot come from the experience of others, you have to build it on your own.

About that special sense, I have a story to tell you. My wife was working as a dispatch for a security alarm company. On that night, she was working as usual and doing her job. You have to understand that 98% of the alarm are false. So, to have a positive alarm is really rare. They were taking care of many thousands of alarm in an 8hrs shift. Among all those alarms, she got one alarm for a fire detection in a snack bar. She sent the fire department and went on with the other alarms. The fire department came back and report that there was no fire in there. She felt that something was wrong. She got a few more alarm from that place and she got that feeling that something was wrong. So she called back the fire department and told them that she kept getting an alarm and something was strange with that alarm coming back again and again. So the fireman got back to the snack bar and did some other test. They tested the place for gas and found out that there was a leak in there. It was a major leak. If it would have blown, the whole village would have exploded. In some way, she followed her feeling and saved many people. The feeling was good because she understood how the alarm where working and she had experience on the job. If this would have happen in her first week, there’s a good reason to think that she would not have push it further after the first check up from the fire department.

We all need to start up with some learning. Those who don’t take the time to learn the basics first will have to get it the hard way doing it. The problem with learning is there’s a lot of people that can’t take the next step into doing. You’ll have to find your edge in this. Some will need a lot of time and some a lot less. It’s ok to take the time you need. Because, in the end the ones who are doing and keep on doing will be the one to succeed.

Between learning and doing, doing is the best. But you need to keep on doing. Most doers who are quitting do it because they don’t have what is needed to keep going. They don’t know what they should do and they don’t know how they can find that information. And this could be helped with learning. You should keep on learning as you are doing. It will help you face the problem you’ll get on the way to reaching for your goal.

Learning the basics is like building a strong basement for your project. It will not assure you of success, but it’s a good way to start.

“There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning.”

Jiddu Krishnamurti

There’s no end to learning, even if you think you don’t have anything more to learn, you’ll learn anyway.

“The brighter you are, the more you have to learn.”

– Don Herold

Some very intelligent people think they know enough. That’s one more thing they’ll have to learn, that they have to keep on learning to the level of their capacity. You should always surpass yourself.

Fountain of youth

fountainofyouth

If you keep on learning, you’ll never get old. Learning is the fountain of youth.

“Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.”

 – Samuel Ullman

Enthusiasm in life is the way to keep up the need to learn more. When you loose that source of motivation, you loose the will to stay young.

“The secret of genius is to carry the spirit of the child into old age, which means never losing your enthusiasm.”

 – Aldous Huxley

The geniuses are the ones who find ways to keep their enthusiasm. No one can do it for you; you have to get it on your own.

You have the power to choose what you want. Even if there’s pressure from a lot of outside source to push you in one direction or another, in the end you always have the last word. Choose wisely, because the one who’s going to live with it is you.

Keep learning

keeplearning

How much do you value your capacity to learn new things?

We all have the capacity to learn until we die.

Life is better when you keep the flame of learning new things alive.

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”

Mahatma Gandhi

Make a difference in your life as you keep on learning.

“Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and diligence.”

Abigail Adams

Too many people think that have learned enough. And then, they wonder why they get left behind. They became obsolete.

Invest in yourself

investyourself

At one time or another, we have to deal with a limited amount of money. Its OK, we all have to make choices.

I believe that we should invest in ourself. I buy Book, DVD, CD or tickets for conference every month. I visit second hand book shop to find low price books. I do my best to keep my spending under a level that I can afford.

If you are like me and looking to invest in yourself on a budget, then I could give you some tips on what you can find online for a low price.

I’ll start with “FREE” audio book that you can find on YouTube.

The compound effect

by Darren Hardy

https://youtu.be/npV7T_cu8qE

How to win friend and influence people

by Dale Carnegie

https://youtu.be/uSC7-gQ64uM

Think and grow rich

By Napoleon Hill

https://youtu.be/5ao9E3gqhOA

Those are some of the ones I found, but you can find a lot more. There’s also a lot of video conference from some of the top people around the world. When it’s free, all you have to invest, is your time.

My second tips would be to visit the used bookstore in your city. Salvation Army are selling second books at a very low price around here, you should take a look at the one you have in your town. As long as the text is all in there, if the book is about something I want to learn about, I buy it. I’m not looking for perfect book, I’m looking for interesting ones.

You could also find DVDs and CDs in those stores.

Second hand are great when you are on a budget.
