Stop trying to understand what others are living. You can’t understand perfectly what they went true. Show compassion without any prejudice.
Support and compassion are the best way to be there for people who come to you with their problem.

The only way to help others is to start with yourself. The good you do for others will always come back to you. You can do some good for others, but you can’t take their load on your shoulders. That load is for them to carry.
Stop looking for someone else to do it for you. You must do it by yourself.
Yes, you can find some help and you should accept it, but in the end nothing will be over without your fool involvment.
